Friday May 30, 2003: been to the station to meet every train
I love getting ready for trips.
I have care for the cats arranged, I'm thinking about what to pack (it will be 100 degrees in Sacramento. It will be 70 in SF. I must somehow pack for both in one suitcase.) and getting stuff tied together at work. Making lists. Getting ready for travel always involves endless lists, printing out directions from one place to another, making sure all my ducklings are in a razor-straight line, tying them to the ground if I have to.
I will ignore all of my itineraries once I get there, I know, except for the ones that actually move me long distances, like the SFO to Sacramento leg of the trip. But I will wear an adorable little dress to the airport, not just because it's going to be hot as hell, and I will take stationery along with me and write letters on the train, because I believe that that's the thing that train trips are really good for, writing letters and journaling and watching the landscape roll by. (I'd take my stamp carving kit, too, but the airport people don't need yet another reason to search my luggage.)
And I will also take glue this time, because collaging on the fly is fun, as well.
The general plan is this: I will fly in to San Francisco, take the train to Sacramento, spend a few days with my parents, take the train back to San Francisco and go spend a decadent weekend in the lovely hotel that I booked off of Priceline. Also: take many pictures. I probably won't be online at all while in SF, as I decided not to take my laptop with me; I may log in at an Internet cafe a couple of times, but I won't be uploading my pictures until I get home.
I have a long black linen dress and I will lounge around. If I smoked, I would have a long cigarette holder and pretend to be Holly Golightly.
I will not think about work even once for a week.
I came home yesterday to discover Lilith outside the house, shoving at the cat door in hopes of getting it to open and let her in. She's taken to escaping through the bathroom window lately, and has obviously learned how to climb down the tree from the roof. My guess is that she'd been out most of the afternoon and wanted in so she could nap without worrying about the neighborhood cats disturbing her.
I worry about Lilith sometimes. As she's gotten older, she's become the kind of cranky matriarch that I never really wanted to have. She hates the kitten still, especially now that Cricket has gotten bigger and is actually starting to chase Lilith around. Cricket, after spending the night outside a couple of weeks ago and dislocating her tail, has gotten too big for her britches. There is much hissing and thumping in the house these days.
I look forward to her growing up, I really do.
I am craving chocolate like nobody's business. Yes, it is That Time of the Month, and while most people seem to get a couple of days of PMS, I got a solid two weeks of it this month. Hooray for me, or something. Fortunately, it's passing, and only leaving me with the desire to eat chocolate in mass quantities.
And there will be Thai food tonight, which makes me happy.
I went to my endocrinologist, and my TSH is at 1, which is exactly perfect. So I'm doing something right! I am, for the moment, metabolically normal, which is nice to know. And I can have caffeine again in small doses.
Still not normal in other ways, but I like the other ways, so.
